Bishops Outreach Project

In 1998, a grant of was received from the Raskob Foundation to support the Outreach to Bishops Project. One of the outcomes of Project FUTURE DIRECTIONS was the identification of the bishop as a "client" of the NFPC (i.e., someone the NFPC seeks to resource and serve as a constituent member of an affiliated council).
The NFPC's Executive Committee, after a review of existing research and collecting new feedback from bishops, convened a one-day meeting in August 1999 that generated an action plan enhancing Bishop-NFPC communications and collaboration. The following bishops met with the NFPC: Bishop Stephen Blaire/Stockton, Bishop Matthew Clark/Rochester, Bishop Patrick Cooney/Gaylord, Bishop Thomas Daily/Brooklyn, Bishop Richard Hanifen/Colorado Springs, Bishop James Hoffman/Toledo, Bishop Raymond Lucker/New Ulm, Bishop Michael Warfel/Juneau, and Archbishop Rembert Weakland, OSB/ Milwaukee.
In August 2000, a second consultation was held. The participating bishops included: Bishop Robert Banks/Green Bay, Bishop Joseph Charron, CPPS/Des Moines, Cardinal Francis George, OMI/Chicago, Bishop Raymond Goedert/Chicago, Archbishop Thomas Kelly, OP/Louisville, Bishop George Niederauer/Salt Lake City, Bishop Daniel DiNardo/Sioux City, and Bishop Bernard Harrington/Winona. A report on the two-year process is posted on the website.
