They desire to know more about Catholicism ... Currently, young adults find it difficult to find pathways to full time ministry. They are seeking mentors and having trouble finding them. They possess gifts that will serve the needs of others, but the community of faith is doing little to help them recognize, explore and foster those gifts." The volume contains six chapters filled with tables and data. Commentaries are by Dr. Edward P. Hahnenberg, Rachel Hart Winter and Paul Jarzembowski. Published by Loyola Press.

From Seminarian to Diocesan Priest: Managing a Successful Transition -
Father Knott provides helpful insights on this delicate transition. The book's Introduction gives some hints as to what readers can expect. The path to priesthood is a hero's journey," he writes, "a quest." "This book is written," he notes, "to encourage today's heroes, the newly ordained who are setting about on a quest of diocesan priesthood in today's contentious Church." Each chapter in 102-page book begins with a scriptural verse and ends with a list of "Discussion Starters." (2005, Sophronismos Press).
|
The Spiritual Leadership of a Parish Priest: On Being Good and Good at It
Is must reading for all priests, priests-to-be, and especially pastors and parochial vicars. In the chapter on Spiritual Leadership (the third listed), Father Knott writes, "If you thought this book was about how to run a parish, about parish management techniques, you were wrong. Spiritual leadership is not the same as parish management, the focus of most books on the practice of ministry in recent years." He goes on to note, "Spiritual leadership operates on the emotional and spiritual resources of the organization, on its values, commitments and aspirations." (2007, Sophronismos Press).
